招き猫 (maneki-neko) is a cat-shaped figurine, often seen in shops in Japan, which is believed to attract good luck, wealth and customers. A beckoning cat with its right hand raised is an invitation to money. A cat waving with its left hand raised is supposed to invite human relations. Furthermore, a cat with both hands raised is thought to invite both money and human relations.
