Let me share with you the Japanese myth that came to mind when I found this belt.
The land where the sun rises: a beautiful story about the origins of Japan
A long time ago, when the sky and the earth were still in chaos, there lived a radiant sun goddess named Amaterasu Omikami. Her bright light nourished the world, made plants grow, and guided all living things.
One day, Amaterasu ordered her divine descendant to rule over the rich land of Ashihara-no-Nakatsukuni, the world between heaven and earth. Obeying her will, her grandson Ninigi-no-Mikoto descended from heaven. This sacred event is known as Tenson Kōrin, the descent of the heavenly grandson.
The land where he descended was in the east, where the sun rises first. It was a beautiful and promising land, blessed by the light of his divine ancestor. Thus, the country was called “the land where the sun rises.”
This land is called Japan, or Nippon, a nation born under the sun, which always walks in its light.
The sun represents Japan, and this belt was as beautiful as the light of the sun. That is why I named it Akatsuki, “Dawn.”
