Daruma (達磨) is an iconic figure in Japanese culture, often associated with Buddhist tradition and the concept of perseverance. It refers to a legendary Buddhist monk, Bodhidharma, who is considered the founder of the Zen school of Buddhism in 6th-century China, and by extension, Japan.
The Daruma is said to stand up even if you beat it several times, and will always stand up again - in other words, the Daruma always wins!
