MAISON MIYABI: The Spirit of Japanese Elegance in Paris

MAISON MIYABI embodies the marriage of Japanese savoir-faire and French elegance.

The name Miyabi (雅) means absolute elegance in Japanese, representing the brand's core philosophy. Founded by Sari, a Tokyo native who relocated to Paris in 2008, MAISON MIYABI transforms this Franco-Japanese vision into timeless luxury collections that bring the spirit of Japan into everyday life with a refined Parisian twist.

Originally from Tokyo, Sari discovered that rediscovering traditional Japanese craftsmanship, particularly the artistry of kimono, obi, and washi textiles, could address a critical global issue. The decline of Japan's traditional industries is stark: kimono production dropped from 3 million pieces in 1985 to just 150,000 by 2020. Master craftsmen have diminished from 160,000 in 1975 to mere thousands today, with aging artisans and few apprentices carrying forward these techniques.

Many kimonos and obis are worn only once for special occasions, then abandoned—creating both cultural loss and environmental burden. This heritage crisis inspired MAISON MIYABI's solution.

MAISON MIYABI acquires almost-new vintage kimono and obis, personally curated in Japan by Sari, and gives them a second life as luxury collections. This practice honors Japanese textile heritage while promoting sustainable craftsmanship. Designed in Paris and handcrafted by skilled artisans in both Paris and Japan, each piece blends traditional Japanese techniques with French elegance.

Sari wants MAISON MIYABI to color everyone's life the Japanese way, with a French twist.

The Meaning of Miyabi: Japanese Elegance Redefined

MAISON means "a place to live" in French. The Japanese word 雅 (Miyabi) represents understanding taste, bold artistic vision, and graceful presence—embodying absolute elegance. This Japanese concept perfectly expresses MAISON MIYABI's design philosophy: transforming traditional Japanese textiles into timeless pieces that enhance your space.

The MAISON MIYABI Logo: Symbolizing East Meets West

The MAISON MIYABI logo features a traditional Japanese seal pattern (hanko), associated with the kanji 雅 (Miyabi). Gold represents nobility and prosperity in Japanese culture, while the red circle symbolizes the Japanese flag. The alphabetic "M" of Maison merges with Japanese kanji, visually expressing our Franco-Japanese heritage—a fusion of Western and Eastern aesthetics that defines every handcrafted collection.
