Master craftsmen have diminished from 160,000 in 1975 to mere thousands today, with aging artisans and few apprentices carrying forward these techniques.
Many kimonos and obis are worn only once for special occasions, then abandoned—creating both cultural loss and environmental burden. This heritage crisis inspired MAISON MIYABI's solution.
